I love when I get to cross off restaurants on my To-Eat list, especially ones from one of my favorite chefs--Nate Appleman. He won my heart and stomach at A16 and SPQR in San Francisco now he did it again, here in New York at Pulino's Bar and Pizzeria.
Like any other hot new restaurant in New York, I had to strategically plan when to go there to minimize the potential wait time. I decided brunch at noon on a Sunday, when most of New York is asleep and the weather was crappy was the perfect opportunity. The wait was only half an hour! Enough time to stroll down the street and pick up some Think Coffee--although the host made me finish it before I was able to sit down!
I really like the sign outside. It's eye catching!
Egg frittata with kale, prosciutto and smoked ricotta. It wasn't what I expected at all. The kale was blended into the eggs so there wasn't much of a kale taste but I liked it.
Pulino's offers a few options for sweet pizza...yes, sweet pizza! This is the frutta--cinnamon, sugar, butter, roasted pears and pecorino. It was soooo good. Not too sweet at all.
Salsiccia pizza with egg, sausage, bacon and white cheddar. This was delicious! The crust was light, thin and crispy--exactly how I like it.
I liked the whole vibe of the restaurant--open kitchen, lots of light, checkered floor, waiters in converses. It felt casual and cool. I will definitely be back to try dinner.
