Today at work, there was an event for the summer interns of JPM in which we demonstrated and helped them prepare parts of their 3-course dinner. It always makes me nervous when other people are welding knives with no prior training so I was pretty anxious to be demonstrating how to dice up melon. Luckily all went smoothly and no one was hurt.
Seeing these young, eager kids in their business clothes was a bit nostalgic. It's hard to imagine myself in the same place just a few years ago. Also quite ironic, that I am working in a bank and teaching young finance professionals how to cook. Life is funny sometimes. My boss asked me if I would ever go back to finance and it surprised me that I didn't have an answer right away. But after thinking for 30 seconds, I can confidently say that I would not want that life back--yes, I miss the money and prestige but I am so much happier doing what I am doing now. So as of now, I'm sticking with my career choice, but who really knows what will happen in the future. It stresses me out to not have a clear career path but that's also part of the excitement.
As Alanis says, it's a black fly on your chardonnay....
