The first day back from vacation always sucks. I could not fall asleep last night and when I did, I was tossing and turning all night. Definitely not pleased when my alarm went off in the wee hours of the morning. Work was less than ideal. I came back to barely any prep for my station because of the long weekend and a very busy lunch service. I had to hustle to be ready in time, which meant skipping breakfast and eating random bits of food all day.
We're expecting a visit from the NYC Health Department any day now so my chef has been enforcing all the annoying rules like wearing a hat and gloves. We're going to be given a letter grade like the rest of NYC--a new regulation that I think will really hurt some restaurants. Why go to a B or C rated restaurant when you can go to an A and have peace of mind that your food was prepared properly? Anything but an A for us will mean stern reprimand from the guys up top.
I hit the gym for the first time in days and it felt good to sweat out all the toxins (pork fat, alcohol, sugar) that I had ingested in Cali. Too tired to really prepare anything fancy for dinner, I had a salad with some fresh veggies and Italian tuna. I feel much healthier but my darn sweet tooth is aching and I am resisting the urge to run out for ice cream. Wah.
