Happy belated fourth of July! Celebrating in NYC is always a bit of a bummer since I can't BBQ like I would actually like to do. Instead, I escaped the city and headed to Sandy Hook, NJ for some quality beach time. Perhaps I am spoiled coming from California and having seen much better beaches, but I wasn't all that impressed with the Jersey shore. It was a decent beach but pebbly and yellow and not really anything to write home about. It was sufficient for lounging around and attempting to get that orange Jersey glow (failed.) I had watched the Nathan's hot dog eating contest earlier that morning (yay Joey Chestnut!) and had weiners on my mind. After some sunbathing, I stopped by the Seagull's Nest off the beach for a snack.

Then I headed back to the city and caught the fireworks show off the West Side Highway. They were spectacular and worth being herded around the crowds like cattle! Thanks for being independent, America!
