Sake Bar Hagi

Last week, I went to a Japanese izakaya (pub food) restaurant that was featured on Anthony Bourdain's No Reservations. It had a cool speakeasy feel, located down a flight of stairs and with a tiny sign outside identifying it from the few other Japanese places on the street. I've been to several izakaya restaurants in the city, but this felt different inside---a bit more authentic? I immediately liked it even before trying any of the food. The menu was mostly Japanese items but had a few randoms like Camembert cheese and mini corn dogs. They also like to serve Costco size parmesan cheese and hot sauce!

who needs this much cheese??

daikon salad with fried fish

yakitori

fried chicken gizzard

okonomiyaki: japanese style pancake
spicy cod roe fried rice
I thought the food was great. No complaints at all. Washed it all down with some sake from Berkeley (was dining with fellow Bears) and some Sapporo. It was a fantastic meal that was easy on the wallet. I can't wait to go back!
